I’m fascinated by Hathor (or Hwt-Hrw, pronounced ‘Haut-Hor’), one of the most commonly worshipped goddesses in ancient Egypt. She is often depicted with a woman’s face and cow’s ears, and, according to Kerry E Wisner’s ‘Song of Hathor’, had such titles as Lady of Heaven, Lady of Stars, Sovereign of Stars, Lady of Lapis-Lazuli, Golden One, Beautiful One, Lady of the Sacred Land, Lady of Music, Lady of Dance, to name just a few. She represents love, joy, pleasure, sexuality, music, dance and beauty.
Even though this design looks quite complicated, it isn’t … the stars in the background are a repeated pattern, and once you have stitched the outline of the Hathor heads, it is easy to fill in the colours afterwards.
